‘Catch Of The Day’ Was Katie Lee Biegel’s Vision

Hallmark’s new romcom Catch Of The Day starring Emilie Ullerup and Michael Rady was written by Katie Lee Biegel. Viewers may remember that Lacey Chabert and Ektor Rivera starred in the 2022 Hallmark movie Groundswell. That was based on Katie’s novel of the same name. Catch Of The Day is also a first for Katie. This is her first screenplay.

Speaking to Swooon, The Kitchen star revealed that she went to screenwriting school in New York before she put her vision to paper. “I actually took a screenwriting class at NYU to learn the format.” She also read a book on the craft.

Furthermore, Andrea Canning, the Dateline host who moonlights as a romcom and true crime screenwriter co-wrote this movie. Katie shared she also “learned the ropes” from this seasoned Hallmark writer.

Katie not only wrote the script, but she also has a small cameo as a rather catty food blogger. Biegel, who was previously married to Billy Joel, admitted that she would love to star in a Hallmark movie.

I really like to do things that challenge me and get me out of my comfort zone. So, yeah, I would love to do a starring role in a Hallmark movie. I think that’d be super fun. Let’s just put it out there.
