Alison Sweeney is back for the thirteenth movie in the Murder She Baked/Hannah Swensen Mystery series.
On Saturday, March 7, the Hallmark Channel premiered the latest Hannah Swensen Mystery called Sugar & Vice. According to the network, “Hannah finds a body at the grand re-opening of the Lake Eden Inn. When a storm traps everyone inside, Hannah must find the culprit before the road clears and the killer escapes. “
In an Exclusive Interview with Alison Sweeney, she talks about the incredible costumes in this closed room mystery. She also shares which Joanne Fluke mystery this new mystery is from.
Alison Sweeney Wowed By Masquerade Costumes
Alison Sweeney’s latest movie, Sugar & Vice: A Hannah Swensen Mystery features a closed door mystery that takes place at the grand re-opening of the Lake Eden Inn. That means the the shows long-time costume designer Kelsey Baran had a lot more to do than find attractive puffer coats and Cookie Jar aprons. Moreover, the Days actress was dazzled by what Baran and other creative teams came up with with no extra budget!
I just can’t tell you how impressed I was by every department stepping up to make this.
You know, it’s not like we had a bigger budget.
So every department is able to step up and do this magic with what we, you know, what our situation is and make it shine.
Our very talented costume designer, Kelsey Baran did a sensational job with, like, real fabulous costumes for every person on set. And like unique, you know, really like great.
As executive producer, Sweeney revealed that she hd something specific in mind when it came to those costumes. She told her creative team, “Let’s make this great And I mean, the scene in Phantom of the Opera, that is the masquerade.”
However, she made it clear, “We’re not talking about Halloween here, people. We’re talking about, like, a real masquerade.” The result by Kelsey Baran and her team blew Ali away. “And it’s just amazing to watch, like, just all the colorful costumes going by in the background. You see, like, Marie Antoinette. And you see, all sorts of dusters and great costumes.(14:47) So that was really cool.” She added, “The set, our production designer did a great job in building this beautiful party.”
Which Joanne Fluke Mystery Is ‘Sugar & Vice’ From?
Lastly, Alison Sweeney, who wrote the screenplay for Sugar & Vice: A Hannah Swensen Mystery, told us that she based this script on at least one of the books from the Joanne Fluke cozy mystery series.
Alison revealed that Sugar & Vice was “loosely based” on Joanne Fluke’s Sugar Cookie Mystery. She contends that although the book is Christmasy, she took the locked room mystery part of the story and ran with it.
When Is The Premiere Of ‘Sugar & Vice: A Hannah Swensen Mystery’?
The premiere of Sugar & Vice: A Hannah Swensen Mystery is on Saturday, March 7, at 8 p.m. Eastern, on the Hallmark Channel. This movie will be available to stream on Hallmark+ the next day. In addition, Hallmark Mystery will premiere this new mystery starring Alison Sweeney, Victor Webster, and Barbara Niven on Friday, March 13, at 8 p.m. Eastern.
