Hallmark’s third Winter Escape movie is Love On The Amazon. This stars Grey’s star Jaicy Elliot and Dynasty star Rafael de la Fuente. In this new romcom, Jaicy stars as Claire, who travels to Brazil to get to her sister Amelia (Persephone Barda-Redman), who is studying pink dolphins in the Amazon. However, this adventure newbie and bookworm needs help. Therefore, she hires Danny (Rafael), a riverboat captain, who takes her down the Amazon. Claire is headed on quite an adventure!
Where was this new Romancing The Stone sort of adventure movie filmed? Here are the details, including the Survivor-like experience!
Hallmark’s ‘Love On The Amazon’ Filming Location Was ‘Survivor’ Experience!
Jaicy Elliot recently spoke to Marcos Papadatos at Digital Journal about the film’s location and her Survivor-like experience filming Hallmark’s Love On The Amazon.
Firstly, she revealed they filmed on the Amazon River! “The experience of shooting the movie felt like Survivor. We were really dropped into the middle of the Amazon River.”
Next, the My Southern Christmas star revealed where they filmed the majority of the movie. “We had 15 days of shooting, and nine of them were on a boat, so it had a lot of challenges…especially when you put a crew on a boat under the sun.”
Therefore, this is not a Vancouver set with green screen. This was a challenging shoot that was as adventurous as the story. “I feel like it was as much an adventure for us as it was for our characters.”
Furthermore, Jaicy Elliot shared that the Amazon River was as much a character in this movie. This is not unlike Emily In Paris, SATC, or other destination series where location becomes a character.
The Amazon truly was a character in terms of the look, but also the background sound that is omnipresent…you always have it there. As actors, the Amazon brought out this raw honesty out of us.
I think it does the same thing for the characters, so you can’t disregard the fact that we are in the middle of this really warm winter, where it was still very humid and very hot.
Lastly, viewers will find it interesting how their experience mirrors the movie’s story. “So, we had to suffer as someone would on set who presents challenges.”
She laughed at this, so it sounds like, as hard as this was, this experience was still rewarding.
‘Love On The Amazon’ Is About ‘Exploring Yourself Through Travel’
Hallmark’s Love On The Amazon is not just an adventure romcom. This is a story about a woman who learns more about herself. Written by Hannah Swensen star Juliana Wimbles, Jaicy Elliot shared that “In the end, the script is very much about exploring yourself through travel.” The French-born actress added that “It has reminded me that I want to be part of the bigger picture–the worldwide picture–not just my little bubble.”
This harks back to when Hallmark’s January programming was previously called New Year, New Movies. Those movies traditionally featured stories about growth in characters, and remembering dreams. The first two movies in the 2026 Winter Escape programming, Lost In Paradise, and A Melbourne Match featured beautiful locations, along with personal growth.
The premiere of Love On The Amazon is on Saturday, January 17, at 8 p.m. Eastern, on the Hallmark Channel. Jaicy Elliot and Rafael de la Fuente’s adventure romance will be available to stream on Hallmark Plus starting Sunday, January 18.
- Colin Theys directed Love On The Amazon
- Theys also directed the 2025 Winter Escape movie Polar Opposites–which was the tenth most watched Hallmark movie in 2025 (that includes Christmas!)
